About The Company
House of Flora Flower Market, Inc. roots go deep Richard Brancifort has 3 generations of flowers in his blood. Nearly a century ago Santo Branciforte stuffed 12 dollars in his pocket boarded the SS Germania in Sicily and made the long trip across the ocean Sam settled in Cromwell, CT and eventually took a job at A.N. Pierson Greenhouses years later he set out to open his own business and built a greenhouse in Cromwell. They opened up the greenhouse on a shoestring. In the 1920‘s one legendary family tale goes: Sam paid a fellow Italian immigrant $50.00 for a horse despite the sellers repeated caveats in broken English that the horse "no looka to good". The animal seemed fine to Sam, but on the ride home, the horse clipped the side of Sam’s barn knocking him off. Sam discovered the horse was nearly blind. He confronted the seller "Sam!" his friend replied I told you the horse "no looka to good!" Richard Branciforts’ father grew up in the flower business but he preferred the retail end. After WWII Alfred Brancifort Senior and his wife Edith, took a crash course in floral design in New York City. Borrowed money under the GI bill and in 1947 after dropping the "e" in his last name opened Brancifort The Florist in a storefront on Arch Street in New Britain, CT. Richard shadowed his dad around the store and even joined him on business trips to New York in his youth. Brancifort Florist stood in its current location for 38 years. Richard opened up House of Flora in August of 1974. It is at its current location at 896 New Britain Ave Hartford, CT

Occasionally, substitutions may be necessary to create your bouquet due to the availability of certain flowers in various parts of the country. Care is taken to maintain the style, theme and color scheme of the arrangement, using flowers of equal value. Additionally, the substitution of certain keepsake items may be necessary due to increased demand, especially during major holidays. In single-flower arrangements, such as an all rose bouquet, or orchids, we will make every attempt to match the flower type, but may substitute with another color.
